Minutes from January 2009

 

 

 

Date:  January 20, 2009          Location:  Seattle FD Joint Training Facility JTF

 

Abbreviations:  SEA=Seattle, TUK=Tukwila, STC=SeaTac, MON=Monroe, WDV=Woodinville, SNO=Snohomish, DUV=Duvall, VAS=Vashon, BEL=Bellevue, RED=Redmond, LFL=Learning for Life Reps.

 

Called to order 1940 (SEA, VAS, WDV, STC, TUK).

 

LFL: October JESD:  108 Explorers (Fire, Police, etc). 2 Practical Drills (combined Fire and Police).  LFL looking for 2009 Planning Team.  September 19, 2009 (alternate is Sept 26).  Fire and Police Explorers from around the state.  Classes to start in the morning followed by practical drills.  Someone else will need to make tee shirts.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Checking 2      $  2,085.03     (account with debit card for official use.)

Savings            $     805.40

Balance           $  3,548.08

Outstanding check $60 for associate membership in Washington State Firefighters Association (paid but hasn’t cleared yet)

 

OLD BUSINESS:  

Website: Still looking for information, photos, etc.  Email Jen Becker for contact info.

 

WAFF Christmas Party: Advisors had a lot of fun (though there were no hot wings).  Change of venue will be discussed for 2009 party.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  

2009 WAFF Meeting Dates: January 20, March 17, May 19, July 21, September 15, and November 17, 2009.

 

2009 Summer Fire Academy: July 20-25, 2009 (Basic Academy), July 27-31 (Advanced Academy).  Explorers must attend Basic Academy to attend the Advanced Academy.  Explorers must be members of WAFF Agencies.  Packets were handed out at the meeting.  Contact Lt. Wyatt if you need more packets.  Explorers must pass a basic physical ability test prior to the Academies.  2 explorers per program may attend (2 alternates may also take the agility test and may attend if spaces open from other agencies).  Hours from 0730-1800 (explorers are encouraged to get here around 0700).  Saturday the 25th is the graduation (family and fire department officials are invited).  Ceremony and multicompany demonstration follows.  Advanced Academy: Every day is a specific subject (lots of field trips) like Aircraft Firefighting (ARFF) at Boeing Field, ICS/Command (Dispatch Center and Command Van), Rope Rescue, etc. 

 

WAFF Muster:  at Renton Station 14,  Hosted by Zone 3 (STC and TUK) , April 25, 2009 (Skyway is alternate site).  Will need a new trophy after this year’s muster.  Start thinking of design.

Skill and scoresheets are due by the next WAFF Meeting.  Posts will be emailed old versions.

Motion for Muster Awards will now be given for only Top 5 (instead of 10) in Team and Individual Events.  Passed Unanimously

Plaques/Certificates for Team Events, Medals/Certificates for Individual Events.

Motion to Increase in registration fee from last year $5 per person.  Passed Unanimously

Motion to Increase in registration fee from last year $10 per Agency.  Passed Unanimously

Motion to Increase cost for $5 per Advisors to cover food.  Passed Unanimously

Costs for this year’s muster:  $25 per participant, $60 per agency (preregistration),

$5 per Advisor (for food)

 

Zone 3 Explorers:  SeaTac, Tukwila, and soon to increase Renton.  Multiple fire call outs over Christmas break.  Explorers do Rehab on scene at working fires and technical calls working with firefighters and King County Medics. PSCC is looking to build public safety program building on campus (Law Enforcement/Firefighting).  Looking for a place to drill other than a parking lot.  

 

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER: 

LFL  www.seatlelfl.org is the website for trip permits, applications for adults/youth.  Website broken when checked tonight.  Staff will be working on the problem.  Call with any questions/concerns.  Upcoming fire event in Eastern Washington, more details coming in the future.  Contact her with upcoming events, etc.  National Reps may be coming to Muster (Cliff).  Please fill out TRIP PERMITS.
